How Do You Get Settled Back Into Your Routine After Major Holidays?

Hey everyone, how busy have you been over the holidays?  Are you settling back into life as you know it? I can finally say I am.  I almost stopped writing completely because of all the sewing and fermenting I did leading up to the holidays.  I made several tops for my niece, and several dresses and nightgowns for my granddaughter and was in North Carolina visiting family AND my granddaughter for Christmas and the New Year.

Even though we are out of town, we still read our Bible every morning and have our prayer time.

For Christmas, I gave out fermented foods to all my siblings (3 families) which included pickles, peppers, hot sauce, 18-hour bone broth and sauerkraut, all in handmade reusable grocery bags. (Pictures below with the Christmas tree, the bags are pink striped)

I couldn’t get enough of this child. I have so many pictures of her because she rarely smiles.  When I caught her, I took the shot.
This is her eternal look.  She is always so serious

We stayed at Native American Bible College in Shannon, NC.  They are so wonderful.

We also had some target practice out in the country on our friend’s land.

As soon as we got home in January, I was back to cooking and making jewelry.

It takes time to settled back into our routines and it takes a lot of rest to get back to our lives.  But when we do, it’s wonderful to be home!

How much time does it take you to get back to your routines, or back on sleeping schedules? Do you remember your Bible when you are away from home?  Let me know in the comments below.

Making a Doll Day 1

So I found several patterns for dolls and since I do embroidery and we’re having brand new little girls appearing in our family I thought I would start making some dolls for them. I just started one this afternoon and should be finished tomorrow. I’m doing all stitching by hand. No sewing machine at all. The face is embroidered and my own design and everything else is backstitching. It is very strong and sturdy I will be posting a doll, my own pattern tomorrow. Here is what I’ve done so far. So stay tuned.

I can’t wait to do the hair! If you’ve made a doll please post your info and link to picture. Thanks!

A Little Crochet for Christmas

Everybody’s having a baby!  We just had a baby born in our family about 5 months ago, a little girl, and we have two more coming in January; a boy and a girl.  So I have set out to making baby blankets for Christmas.  I posted the pink, yellow and white blanket for our most recent family member over 5 months ago so I wanted to show the blankets I made for our future members.

These blankets are simple.  They are made with the half double crochet stitch throughout with the same stitch for the border.  If you would like a tutorial, let me know, I’ll post one.

For the little boy coming soon, his nursery colors are red & black plaid and his animal is a moose.  Oh, that’s soo sweet!! I crocheted his blanket with Redheart Supersaver Crafter’s Secret and With Love using one strand of red, and another of black at the same time.  I used Red as the border.  My crochet hook was 8.0mm or the L Hook and I only use Susan Bates.   It made a faux plaid look I think, without really looking like plaid.

This blanket is for our sweet little girl coming into the family.  Her nursery colors are pink & gray and her animal is a pink elephant.

Let me also say I have a tone of yarn and need to use a lot of what I have before buying any more.  My rules, not my husband’s.  He loves it when I shop for yarn, and he loves it when I crochet.  We sit in the living room watching our favorite television shows or movies and I crochet in the meantime.  I made the red & black Monday night, and this one last night.  I used Bernat Baby Blanket, it isn’t the nursery colors but I think it’ll do.  I wanted something that would work up quick but would be warm and this was all the yarn I had left of this brand.

I used the L Hook or 8.0 mm and again the half double crochet stitch throughout including the border.

M@ssy-Bun Cable Hat (Crochet)

Hi everyone, I just wanted to show off this awesome m@ssy-bun hat I just made.   I found the post by entering what I wanted in a search engine.  I tried Pinterest with no luck because everything on Pinterest now is an ad.  I absolutely hate it.  You click on the link hoping you will see the item you clicked on, but instead, you have to sell your soul to get it.  There are so many hoops to jump through, give away your email, subscribe to a website, give your name, and others don’t even show the item it’s just an ad for something else.

I DON’T USE PINTEREST AS MUCH BECAUSE OF THAT REASON

Anyway, I checked my search engine and found this awesome m@ssy-bun cable hat by Diana Borgstrom Thank you so much!! You can also follow along with the YouTube tutorial by Yvonne Metz another Thank you!!

New Virus Shawl

My goal was to make 3 virus shawls. This is the second one I made, one for each of the three girls at the Bible College where I was the Registrar. I love this pattern and it was such a joy to make for them.

This beautiful pattern reminds me of a butterfly. I am so proud of the young ladies at Native American Bible College. I was the Registrar when each of them walked through the door to begin their education and soon they will be graduating.

I have added a link to the tutorial that I used to make the shawl.

Jewel Colored Virus Shawl

Hi everyone, I will be visiting family soon and we have decided to stay on campus at the Bible College where I use to work. They have apartments and 2 room suites we can stay in so it is perfect. It is also where we stayed the week after we got married before moving me to PA.

I have been thinking of 3 of the dorm students that I was close to when I worked there as the Registrar (you meet a lot of students in that position) and I wanted to do something for them so I crocheted a shawl for each of them. Today I am posting the beautiful Jewel toned Virus Shawl with beautiful purple and jade. I will include a link to the video where I got the pattern.

Projects

Storm

I did have a dream last night but the only thing I can remember is dreaming about dark brown cabinets in a dark room, not a kitchen, but they looked like kitchen cabinets. They had a design all the way around each door but there were no handles. I also remember the name Clegg Trey. I don’t know anyone by this name although there was someone I knew with the name Tray with an “a”. I have been giving characters names in my story and changing names as well and that was something I was working on the past couple of days and I keep forgetting that I changed this one character’s name so I keep writing it wrong. But it wasn’t something that was on my mind before I went to bed, or even hours before bed, it was something that I was working on days before and a little yesterday morning. It is amazing how we can dream about something so vividly that is deep in our subconscious.

What I wanted to talk about was one of the many projects I have my hands in besides my book. I have not even began editing so that’s why I haven’t written much about it yet, some things are still moving and changing a little. Which makes me wonder; if the things you write about actually happened would the book be considered a  work of fiction or non-fiction? I guess if it is mostly true it would be non-fiction, which means you’d need to add more fiction elements to make it non fiction.  But how do you even go about doing that? This is one of the many things I am learning along my writing journey.

On with the project I wanted to talk about.  I wanted to crochet a coat for this winter. I am originally from North Carolina and this will be my first winter in Pennsylvania. It doesn’t get really cold in NC, this week there has been almost a 7 to 10 degree difference and it rains more here, I LOVE THE RAIN!!!  So I wanted to make a coat to start wearing in October when I could really start feeling a chill. In NC October is a hot month, and not just hot, but muggy. So I am looking forward to making this. I wanted to do something fairly easy like granny squares

Squares

So I found a great pattern on YouTube.  https://youtu.be/U6PwfShifu8 This is Annoo Crochet Designs and I think she is my new favorite. I have made 30 of the 47 crochet squares and I’m getting excited.  This yarn is Red Heart Unforgettable and the color is Sunrise.
