Grow Green Onions in Water in Just 7 Days

I don’t know about you, but my family loves green onions, and we always seem to run out in between trips to the grocery store.  So today I’m going to show you how to grow your own green onions in just 7 days with only water and keep harvesting them for weeks to come.

Check out the video below, or skip down to continue reading.

The first thing you will need are onions.  Organic green onions will be best because they don’t have any pesticides on them and well, they are organic.

Next, you need to cut the tops off all the way down to the bulb.  I think it is best to do this to as many onions as you can.  I used the entire bag of green onions and just placed the green tops back in the refrigerator to use for the week while these were growing.  This way, as they grow, I will only cut what I need so the others can continue growing.  When I cut them, I left a little green on the bulb but you can cut it a little farther if you like.

Next, place the bulbs in a small leak-proof container.  I used the bottom of a water bottle and filled it half-way with filtered water.  Now place the onions in a sunny place and remember they like lots of water so keep that container full.

You will see growth over-night.  Below is how much growth my onions had over 1 night.

Day 2, In less than 24 hours there is real growth and it is visible.

Day 5

On the evening of day 6 (no photo because I forgot to take one) I boiled 4 eggs to make potato salad and decided to cool the egg water and feed it to my onions and basil.  I’m glad I did because the shot up even taller.

Day 7 the green onions are ready to be harvested.

I already cut some of these onions on day 6 because they were fairly long, and I needed them for a salad.

When you harvest your onions, only cut the older ones.  You will know which ones they are because they will be thicker, and some will be taller.  Cut them at the bottom just like when you started and they will continue to grow and you just continue to cut what you need while the others grow.

New Handmade SweetPea Sisters Dolls Showing Up in My Shop

SweetPea Sisters Doll
SweetPea Sisters Doll

About a year ago, I posted pictures of a doll I made from a pattern.  The doll was a bit too big for the children I wanted to make it for so I didn’t make anymore of them.

Earlier this year, 2020, I realized I have 3 little girls in my life all under the age of  2 1/2 and wanted to make them something special. I wanted to make a doll. So I remembered the pattern I had and that it was too big for these little ladies and I began to look on Pinterest.  I found several dolls I liked and wrote down why I liked them.  Soon I began sketching out my own doll body parts.  I drew them on fabric, cut them out and sewed them up.  Let me tell you, it didn’t turn out too good in the beginning, but as soon as I began stuffing them, I could see where I needed to make changes, so I did.  The picture above is the finished product.  I will be stocking my Shop this week.  Please go over and take a look. I hope you like what you see.  If you have some ideas of what you would like to see in my shop, send me a message in the space below.

First Doll of the SweetPea Sisters

57188841743__b34f888b-57f9-4405-81c8-d7077d69b780Some of you remember the first doll I made at the end of 2018 well I made another one and it’s even better.  I made this doll for my niece Madison who is 6 years old and loves dolls. I included 3 crocheted shawls and three skirts. Her favorite colors are pink and purple and green.

I used the same pattern as last time The Pepper Doll from crazylittleprojects.com but I changed some things. Instead of using yarn for the hair, or the pattern suggested felt or flannel, I used fleece and made braided buns on each side of her head and hand-stitched it on. I also added lips and embroidered them.  The doll in the pattern has no mouth.  As for the skirt, I wanted it to have more detail so I added a decorative topstitch and created a ruffle above the waistline. Instead of a crocheted cowl, I crocheted 3 shawls with cute little pompoms. I will definitely be making more of these dolls for the little girls popping up in my life.  I wanted to show off my skills so here is the end result.

**Update** (June 2020) Earlier this year I opened an online shop to sell the things I make like Native jewelry, beadwork, blankets and even soft toys for all ages.  I re-visited the idea of making dolls because now I have 2 granddaughters under the age of 2 and a niece that is not yet 5 months old.  I really enjoyed making the doll above, but wanted to make something of my own.  I wanted my doll’s head and body to be one piece with shorter arms and legs that move better and are more proportionate to the body.  That being said, I also wanted more details.  I wanted a doll that I could put together quickly but accessories that looked like they took forever to make.

Thanks to inspiration from the Pepper Doll I have made my own doll pattern that is not quite as tall.  They will be in my shop the last week of June 2020.  Right now I have the dolls’ photos above as a place holders labeled “coming soon”. Please stop by and take a look.

The Doe And The Bear is the name of the shop. Just click the link and check it out.  There are other items available as well.

How Do You Get Settled Back Into Your Routine After Major Holidays?

Hey everyone, how busy have you been over the holidays?  Are you settling back into life as you know it? I can finally say I am.  I almost stopped writing completely because of all the sewing and fermenting I did leading up to the holidays.  I made several tops for my niece, and several dresses and nightgowns for my granddaughter and was in North Carolina visiting family AND my granddaughter for Christmas and the New Year.

Even though we are out of town, we still read our Bible every morning and have our prayer time.

For Christmas, I gave out fermented foods to all my siblings (3 families) which included pickles, peppers, hot sauce, 18-hour bone broth and sauerkraut, all in handmade reusable grocery bags. (Pictures below with the Christmas tree, the bags are pink striped)

I couldn’t get enough of this child. I have so many pictures of her because she rarely smiles.  When I caught her, I took the shot.
This is her eternal look.  She is always so serious

We stayed at Native American Bible College in Shannon, NC.  They are so wonderful.

We also had some target practice out in the country on our friend’s land.

As soon as we got home in January, I was back to cooking and making jewelry.

It takes time to settled back into our routines and it takes a lot of rest to get back to our lives.  But when we do, it’s wonderful to be home!

How much time does it take you to get back to your routines, or back on sleeping schedules? Do you remember your Bible when you are away from home?  Let me know in the comments below.

Books That Should be on Your To-Read List

Lately, I’ve come across some pretty good books that I feel like I must share with you.  If you haven’t happened across my other blog, The Reviewers View you should give it a try for your next read.  You can find books by title HERE  or there is a list of categories along the right side of the website.  The ones of you who know me know my go-to is horror or thriller, but I’ve been venturing out lately with some self-help, spiritual, and even mysteries.  On The Reviewers View, I review books mainly but there times I come across a movie or place to stay like a cabin or Bed & Breakfast or even a good TV series that I have to give my opinion on.   Some of the books I have come across lately are ones that made an impression on me and are listed below.

Screams You Hear by James Morris

img_1186

The only time I could read this book was at night when I went to bed because during the day, I am so busy it is the only time I can actually sit down or lay down and read.  That also made it the perfect time.  If I read a scary book, night time is best, a thunderous rainy night would be even better.

I couldn’t stop reading this book.  Normally I like to listen to my books but once in a while a book comes along and it doesn’t matter what the format is, I have to read it. That can be said about this little gem.

This book is about a sixteen-year-old girl named Ruthie, who experiences some pretty traumatic events that engulf the entire island and Ruthie is left to explain what happened.  This book evoked fear in me I didn’t know I could get from a book, I’ll never forget it and it may be YA, but it didn’t feel like it.  I am grown and it was pretty scary to me. Dying IS Easy. Staying Alive is an Entirely Different Matter by K. J. Heritage

Dying is easy This book was a pleasant surprise.  I knew what the book jacket said it was going to be about but I wasn’t ready for what actually happened.

This story is about Adam Hanson a stand-up comedian.  One knight after “dying” on stage, he had a fight with his live-in girlfriend Jozee at the club in front of all their friends.  She left that night without Adam and never came home.  Now Adam is left wondering if she actually left him and her entire life behind to start over or if there was foul play.

It seemed as though Adam was the only person looking for Jozee.  She didn’t show up for work, was a no-show at her scheduled gigs (she’s a comedian too).  It seemed as though she dropped off the face of the earth.  What I didn’t expect were the things Adam was willing to go through to find out if she were okay.  The title isn’t made to throw you, this is a thriller.  I found myself with my hand covering my mouth and shaking my head more than a few times. Be prepared to talk back to this book, (because you will) you may even find yourself trying to convince Adam to keep his mouth shut and just stay home, but what would you do to find the person you love?

Suffer the Children by Craig DiLouie

suffer the children

If you’re into nightmares, this will do it.  Imagine all kids all over the world under the “teen” age suddenly fall dead.  Some are ice skating, playing ball, eating dinner but they all fall.  There aren’t enough funeral homes to take them.  Can you imagine? They begin to rot, most are buried, many in mass graves until the funeral homes can catch up.

But what if the child you buried dug himself out? What if the only thing that could keep them with you were blood, large amounts of it?  What would you do to keep your child awake and with you?  Beg? Barter? Steal?  Would you kill for your child?

This story is told in the view of the parents.  Everything is game, and everything goes.  These parents went to extents I would’ve never thought in my wildest dreams, just to keep their kids alive for a little longer, but are they really alive?  Or are they changing? What are they becoming? Are the parents going down a road in which they can never return?

Oh my Gosh! This book was great, it is one of my go-to horrors.  You can read the full review HERE (Suffer the Children)

Intermittent Fasting by Gabriel Jackson

fasting

This book was intimidating at first because I don’t know if I can fast like this.  After reading this book, it is something I have implemented in my daily life.

I have always fasted for spiritual reasons but never thought of it as something that could restart my body and get my health back on track or boost my immune system.  Spiritually fasting is when you skip your normal lunch, breakfast or dinner and instead spend that time in prayer petitioning God for what is on your heart. This book, however, talks about fasting for your health and it isn’t about skipping a meal, it is about not eating for so many hours like 16 hours.  This sounds like a long time but when you finish dinner at 7 pm on Monday, and go to bed at 11 pm and sleep for 8 hours waking up at 7 am, that is 12 hours without eating.  The book is telling you to not eat breakfast until 11 am, that will be 16 hours of fasting.  I can do that.

This is not the only fasting method the book walks you through.  Read the full review HERE (Intermittent Fasting)

The Light Within Me by Ainsley Earheart

the light within meIf you need some encouragement in your Christian faith or want to learn how to be closer to God, this book is it.

Ainsley talks about how she grew up in a Christian but realized one day that she wasn’t a true Christian and how she made Jesus Lord of her life.  She goes on to talk about how her faith in God and how He has lead her through life.  She also talks about how she landed an awesome job where she can share her faith daily.

A truly inspirational memoir, you can read the full review HERE (The Light Within Me)

How to Sew Double-sided Placemats

When I got married I decided to use one of the black tablecloths from the reception for our dining room table since I bought them all.  I didn’t want everything sitting up somewhere boxed up, deteriorating and never be used  I wanted to look at it every day and remember when I married my awesome husband.

I love the tablecloths, but food can get messy so I decided to make some placemats to protect the tablecloths.  Since I decided at the last minute, I used 2 old sweatshirts as the batting in the middle, because let’s face it, we’re gonna be washing these placemats so we might as well quilt them.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

2 Colors of Fabric
Matching thread
Scissors
Pinking Shears (optional for fabrics that fray)
Batting or old sweatshirts (1 sweatshirt = 2 placemats)
Invisible marker
Binding Clips or pins
Dowel rod for turning corners

Natural Bridge Virginia

Natural Bridge Virginia is located between Lexington VA and Roanoke VA in the Shenandoah Valley and is only 15 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway.  This is where I met my husband, then fiance 3 months before the wedding date to give him my engagement ring so he could have the jeweler make a wedding band to match.

(He lived in PA and I lived in NC until we got married)

If you ever get a chance to visit, I recommend you take the full tour including going into the caves (which depends on the time of year if they are open)

Of course, I had to get a picture of him. Even though I knew he would be putting that ring back on my finger with a commitment of forever, I didn’t like that I was giving it back to him, so often I would tell him, “You will have to fight me for this ring” and he would just laugh.

Finished Doll Day 6

Good morning, I realize I could have finished this a lot sooner especially if I didn’t dedicate only an hour or so a day to this project. But I’d like to announce my doll has clothes so this makes her complete. Yea!!

I may do a tutorial on this but I would like to thank Karly from Paisley Roots for her Pepper Doll Pattern on Crazy Little Projects. In the end, just about everything I did in this project came from her Pattern. I looked at many things for her neck, like a cape, or bonnet. I went back to Karly’s project because it would be the fastest to complete. Get her Pattern Here So I crocheted a scarf that only took 5 minutes. A cape would have to be hemmed and doing it be hand takes a while.

Now that I’m done and she has clothes. I can concentrate on accessories an more clothes. I’ll make more dolls for all the little girls popping up in my life. (But my Own Pattern) and maybe I’ll make a tutorial and video it for YouTube including some do’s and don’ts. I hope you enjoyed this ride-a-long.

Have a blessed New Year
