Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of every May so be sure to mark your calendar & support our military!
Armed Forces Day is a special holiday for people all over the world to come together and thank the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. It is in honor of those currently serving. First conceived by President Harry S. Truman, the holiday was established August 31, 1949, and was announced by United States Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson stating that the 3rd Saturday of May will be to celebrate all branches of the military. It was celebrated for the first time May 20, 1950, and made into an official holiday by John F. Kennedy in 1962.
Ways you can support our Military:
*Thank someone who is serving in the military
*Fly the American flag
*Attend a parade
*Visit a public military display. Military or Government personnel will routinely set up historical or educational displays for the public. This can be eye-opening and good for the entire family. It also gives civilians an opportunity to interact with military personnel face to face.
*Attend an Airshow
