Bible For the Day #36

Proverbs 11:30   The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and the one who is wise saves lives.

Evangelism is a very important spiritual discipline.  I know I will live in heaven for eternity, but what about my neighbor?  Is it right for me to live my life unto myself forgetting all others?  I don’t think so.  The gift of eternal life is not for me alone and it is not something I should hoard.  Matthew 5:16 says “let your light shine“.  I want to go to heaven and I want to take as many people with me as I can.

Evangelism is about reaching out to others.  It doesn’t matter how it starts as long as you do it.  Can you imagine going to heaven and meeting Mr. Bob and he asks you, “Hey Karen, you lived next door to my niece, did you ever reach out to her?”

Now I can’t say whether this would actually happen or not, but think about it, when you meet people, you are Christ’s ambassador.  You may be the only “face” of Jesus they meet.

There are different ways to evangelize and it all starts with contact.  Be nice to someone, go out of your way, speak kind words, and smile, even when you don’t feel like it.  Show Jesus to someone today and when they ask you why you are always so happy, tell them.  Invite them to know Him.  Share a Bible verse.   It doesn’t mean to go stand on the street corner and shout scripture to people, that’s not attracting good attention, but it starts somewhere. Romans 10:15 says And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

What you have is good news!  Evangelism is telling others about Jesus and that he died for us.  Pray for God to give you the words to say, and the right situation.

Evangelism is for us all.  Jesus always said “He who has an ear, let him hear”  This is an invitation.  What is your invitation today?
